  1. Well I guess now that Bhante Sujato is resigning as Santi’s abbot and from teaching, 2012’s program is indeed finalised now… just not the way we expected.

  2. Dear Dan and all,

Thanks for the enquiries re the Canberra talks. As you may have noticed, we haven’t always updated this website as regularly as we should have, so that’s something we need to do better.

Anyway, the 2012 program at the Kambah temple is now finished, at least this side of the vassa. As you may know, we don’t do teachings outside the monastery during the vassa.

As far as plans for after the vassa go, since I’m leaving it’s not up to me. But I have spoken to both the community here and at the Kambah temple, and have encouraged the teachings to continue after the vassa. It remains still uncertain, as there are some comings and goings in the community after the vassa. I am sure you can understand that in this time of change it is not possible to make so many commitments. But rest assured, we have not forgotten the good people of Canberra and in all likelihood there will be teachings in the future.

  3. Hi Dan,

Ayya Sudhamma who is a senior bhikkhuni at Santi has come to Canberra to give talks when Bhante has not been able to. I expect she will come to Canberra to continue the program after the rains retreat (August – October). Please keep checking the website for dates.

  4. Thank you Bhante Sujato. I can understand your decision entirely. There is no way that I’d wish to take on so much responsibility and the laborious nature that I imagine would be the duties of an abbot (plus much more I hadn’t thought of, I reckon). The Buddha taught the means of attaining liberation from dukkha, and yet, despite our best intentions, we tend to find ourselves fettered by it again and again! I wish you all the best with your future endeavours.

And thank you Ruwinie. I look forward to Ayya Sudhamma visits to Canberra after the vassa.
