Kathina is an offering festival held in the last month of the Rains Retreat (Vassa) calender to give the laity an opportunity to support the Sangha in a joyous spirit of generosity.
Kathina originally means the frame where cloth is spread to make robes for Buddhist monks & nuns. This comes down as a tradition where the four basic requisites for monastics (foods, robes, shelter and medicines) are formally offered to the Sangha before they travel after three months in residence for the Vassa.
This year, Santi community will hold Kathina ceremony on 18th of November 2012. (This is a change from a previous tentative date.)
All are welcome to come!
