Kathina is an offering festival held in the last month of the Rains Retreat (Vassa) calender to give the laity an opportunity to support the Sangha in a joyous spirit of generosity.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kathina originally means the frame where cloth is spread to make robes for Buddhist monks & nuns. This comes down as a tradition where the four basic requisites for monastics (foods, robes, shelter and medicines) are formally offered to the Sangha before they travel after three months in residence for the Vassa.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, Santi community will hold Kathina ceremony on 18th of November 2012<\/strong>. (This is a change from a previous tentative date.)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
