Bhikkhun\u012bs gathered together last Sunday, 4th September 2016 to enact the first\u00a0Bhikkhun\u012b\u00a0Upasampada Higher Ordination in NSW<\/h2>\n

l-t-r Ayya Karunasitala, Ayya Hasapanna, Chi Kwang Sunim, Bom Hyon Sunim, Ayya Viditadhamma, Ayya Santacari, Ayya\u00a0Yasala, Ayya Nirodha, Ayya Dhammavati, Ayya Upekkha, Ayya Vajira, Ayya Sudhira, Ayya Dhammadinna<\/p><\/div>\n

For this very special day, seven Theravad\u0101 Bhikkhun\u012bs gathered together to enact this \u201cSangha Kamma\u201d or community action. Senior Theravada\u00a0Bhikkhun\u012b Viditadhamma [Ven Lieu Phap] from Vietnam graced us with her grounded presence and kindly undertook\u00a0the role of Preceptor or Pavattin\u012b. Two very senior Australian Mahayana\u00a0Bhikkhun\u012bs came to witness the ceremony and were invited\u00a0to join the\u00a0Theravad\u0101 Bhikkhun\u012bs within the Sima.<\/p>\n

\"SB_C9764\"Ayya Vajir\u0101, Ayya Dhammavat\u012b and Ayya Santac\u0101r\u012b \u00a0were the\u00a0fortunate candidate S\u0101ma\u1e47er\u012bs able to have their\u00a0Bhikkhun\u012b Upasampada. They are\u00a0now \u201cordained on one side\u201d until they\u00a0visit the monks at Bodhinyana monastery where they will have their ordination \u201cconfirmed\u201d.<\/p>\n

It was a very special and moving ceremony in the Big Cave at Santi Forest Monastery in NSW Australia. We would like to thank everyone who’s hard work and timely effort made this ceremony possible.<\/p>\n

Theravada\u00a0Bhikkhun\u012b Upasampada is \"SB_C9724\"very rare and to have this ceremony in the sacred\u00a0environment of such a beautiful cave was so unique and awe inspiring. Everyone felt touched deep in their hearts by such a breath taking experience. So many had tears in their eyes and even running down their faces or into the tissues.<\/p>\n

At the\u00a0beginning of the ceremony\u00a0three candidates S\u0101ma\u1e47er\u012b Vajir\u0101, S\u0101ma\u1e47er\u012b Dhammavat\u012b and S\u0101ma\u1e47er\u012b Santac\u0101r\u012b waited in a small antechamber of the cave while the\u00a0Bhikkhun\u012bs began the chanting of the Sangha Kamma.<\/p>\n

Then the S\u0101ma\u1e47er\u012b \u00a0candidates were called to approach the Sangha. With their offering trays in hand the candidates pause at the entrance and ask for permission to enter and ask forgiveness for any faults.<\/p>\n

The Pavattin\u012b then instructs each candidate about her robes and bowl. This is your robe, this is your bowl.<\/p>\n

The candidates are questioned by two Kammav\u0101c\u0101c\u0101rin\u012bs, representatives of the\u00a0Bhikkhun\u012bs.<\/p>\n

The candidates return to the Sangha and request Upasampda. The Sangha then questions them.<\/p>\n

The motion to confer the ordination is put to the Sangha three times by the\u00a0Bhikkhun\u012b representatives.<\/p>\n
