Ayya Jitindriya – short bio

Ayya Jitindriya  first ordained as a monastic in the Forest Tradition lineage of Ajahn Chah and Ajahn Sumedho at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in the UK when she was 25 years old, with Ajahn Sumedho as preceptor.  She trained as a nun in this tradition for 17 years, from 1988-2004. After leaving the monastic life at that time, Jitindriya gained a Master’s degree in Buddhist Psychotherapy Practice with the Karuna Institute in the UK, and continued to teach meditation and Buddhist retreats on invitation. In 2008 she returned to live in Australia (her country of birth), practicing as a Buddhist Psychotherapist as well as teaching meditation and Buddhism in various capacities. In early 2018 Jitindriya  re-entered the monastic life (pabbabja) at Santi Forest Monastery in the Southern Highlands of NSW, where she currently resides.
